Mercedes is one of the most trusted and well-loved automobile brands in existence, owed in large part due to the fact that they have been making cars for so very long. But while they have won the hearts of consumers across the globe, their history in Formula 1 has been more hit and miss. It was a bit of a surprise to most people when Mercedes decided to get back into the ring of F1. They’ve been out of the sport since 1955, and while it seemed like a good publicity ploy, it brings with it a risk of doing things wrong. Thankfully they took on a ready-made team from Brawn – previously Honda – with a record breaking performance in 2009 under their belts. So how did 2011 pan out for them?

Barcelona always appears to be near the top of the list of towns folks want to visit and with excellent reason. After being overlooked for a few years while struggling under the hardships imposed on Catalonia by the Franco dictatorship Barcelona ultimately appeared. And when it secured the 1992 Olympics the investment in the city actually brought it forward to what it is now; a modern town with one foot firmly rooted in its culture and history.

The boss of Formula 1, Bernie Ecclestone, told News 24 last year that “we’ve been talking to the people of Cape Town… We’re talking about building a circuit. It’s probably three years away.” This caused ripples of excitement and hope that the Grand Prix may well be returning to South Africa for the first time since 1993. The FIFA World Cup last year, held in South Africa, has shown the world that it is ready to host international sporting events.

Once again, it’s time to rev up those engines and make our way to the starting line for that time of year we all love; the F1 championship races. We’re not even a month into the season, but we can already start predicting which drivers and which teams we’ll see standing on the winners’ podium this year.
The obvious pick for winning driver is Sebastian Vettel since he won last year’s Formula 1 championship. Vettel has what appears to be the fastest car and that factor alone could easily see him becoming this year’s F1 champion. And although Vettel fell victim to some mechanical failures, driver’s errors, and wrecks during last year’s F1 season, he came out a champion and brings with him this year the confidence he needs to bring home the title once again.

Having a perfect overall performance at the challenging 2010 Belgian Grand Prix, Lewis Hamilton have shown that he is one of the best Grand Prix drivers ever .
The blended Belgian weather conditions at Spa-Francorchamps – that could change quickly and indicate various behaviors at various parts of the circuit – didn’t deter Lewis Hamilton from opening up a considerable lead in the race.
Because of a late call to change to wet weather tires as the rain intensified towards the end, he nearly missed the barriers. He didn’t let second-placed Mark Webber steal the lead following the final security car period, proving astonishing maturity to keep it all in hand.
